How this game saves your progress and uses data. Last updated 18 October 2026.
Playing without an account
Degrees of Schröder does not ask for your name, email address or password to play. It creates a random identifier in your browser so you can return to your saved guesses and stats. This is a pseudonymous identity, not a public profile.
What we store and why
The game sends that identifier and your game actions to our Supabase backend. The database stores a hash of the identifier, an internal player ID, puzzle dates, guesses, results, scores and timestamps. These records support saved progress, scoring, personal statistics and protection against duplicate submissions.
The worldwide perfect-solve count and answer pick rates are aggregates. Other players cannot browse your individual saved attempts through the game. Sharing a result is optional and uses your device’s sharing controls or clipboard.
Hosting and database providers receive technical information needed to deliver requests, such as IP addresses and browser information, and may retain operational or security logs. The game also uses a daily hash derived from the incoming IP address to limit excessive creation of guest identities. Its rate-limit records are scheduled for cleanup after two days.
Browser storage
Local storage keeps your guest identifier under dos-guest-v1. IndexedDB and browser caches store basketball data, app files and player images to reduce downloads. These support the game rather than advertising personalization.
You can remove this data using your browser’s site-data settings. Doing so removes access to your existing progress from that browser and creates a new identity on your next visit. It does not delete previously stored backend attempts or undo aggregate statistics. Game history is retained to calculate lifetime and recent results; there is currently no automatic expiry or in-game account-deletion control.
Service providers and external content
The website is delivered through OpenAI Sites and Cloudflare, with game data and backend services supplied by Supabase. Player portraits load from the NBA’s image service, which receives a request from your browser. Providers may process data in countries other than your own.
For their practices, see the OpenAI privacy policy, Cloudflare privacy policy and NBA privacy policy. Linked websites have their own policies.
Google advertising
Google AdSense verification is installed, but this version of the game does not load advertising scripts or display ads. The verification tag and ads.txt file identify the publisher to Google.
If Google ads are enabled, Google and other advertising vendors may use cookies, web beacons, IP addresses or device identifiers to deliver ads, measure their performance and prevent fraud. Advertising cookies can support personalized ads based on visits to this and other websites.
You can manage Google ad personalization in My Ad Center and learn how Google uses information from sites and apps that use its services. Some other vendors offer choices through YourAdChoices. Turning off personalization does not necessarily prevent all advertising cookies.
Advertising consent choices and this policy will be updated before advertising is enabled. The current game does not include a third-party analytics tracker.
